Anton Holmer

Conductor

About

Anton Holmer is a Swedish conductor working regularly with leading orchestras in Sweden and across Europe. He is known for his natural leadership, close engagement with the score, as well as a precise and collaborative approach in rehearsal.

Recent and upcoming highlights include debuts with the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the Belgian National Orchestra. Holmer maintains a close relationship with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, where he will return twice during the 2025–2026 season.

He has previously appeared with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Royal Swedish Opera, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and Orchestre National de Metz.

In recent years, Holmer has been working closely with his compatriot and legendary conductor Herbert Blomstedt, an experience that has had a lasting influence on his approach to conducting.

He has a deep interest in questions of style and performance practice, and is passionate about integrating these ideas into his work with modern symphony orchestras – particularly in late eighteenth-century repertoire, where his interpretations have been widely praised.

From 2021 to 2023, he served as the Assistant Conductor of the Orchestre National de Lyon, conducting a wide range of repertoire.

Holmer studied conducting at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart with Prof. Per Borin. He further developed his skills through masterclasses with Bernard Haitink and Jorma Panula. Before focusing on conducting, he studied organ, piano, and choral conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon. He also holds a master’s degree in organ performance from the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.

He is a recipient of several scholarships from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, including the Crusell Scholarship, and was a semi-finalist in the Nicolai Malko Competition and the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition.

Holmer speaks six languages and also crafts his own conducting batons.

Press

“With both singers and orchestra, Anton Holmer succeeds to continuously fuel the dramatic intensity of the score”

Der Neue Merker

“It is exquisite when Anton Holmer takes care of the finesse in Bolero. He impresses greately at the Stockholm Concert Hall, and the audience gives him and the Philharmonic standing ovations”.

Dagens Nyheter

“Equally well-balanced, clear and sensual is Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, in Holmer’s interpretation”
